Treatment Resistant Depression (22-507 Part 2 Arm B). Study Payment £2,250 + reasonable travel expenses
We are looking for patients with a diagnosis of Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD) i.e. depression that has not responded to two or more antidepressants, to take part in a trial using 5-MeO-DMT.
5-MeO-DMT is a ‘psychedelic’ drug, used both recreationally and in ceremonial settings due to its psychoactive properties. It is one of several controlled substances currently being investigated for their potential therapeutic properties. We are testing whether 5-MeO-DMT, given with psychological support and with and without certain antidepressants, is safe in patients with TRD. This will help us to determine whether to investigate it further as a treatment for this condition.
To take part, you must:
- have Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD)
- be aged 18 to 75
- be taking citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine, or sertraline, which you will continue taking during the study
To take part, you must not:
- have taken any psychedelic substances in the last 6 months
- plan to take any other psychedelic substances during the study
- be addicted to drugs or alcohol
- have an important mental health problem (other than TRD)
This study has two parts.
In Part 2, you will receive two doses of study medication. You will stay on our wards for 1 night before each dose, and you will attend 11 outpatient visits (4 of these may be done via phone or video call).
