25-004 Part 2 – postmenopausal women using HRT, £3,750

We’re looking for healthy postmenopausal women who use Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to take part in a trial of an experimental new medicine for treating hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD).

To take part, you must:

  • be aged 40 to 70
  • have a BMI between 18 and 35
  • be postmenopausal (either because you’ve been through the menopause and your last period was at least 12 months ago, or because you’ve had both your ovaries surgically removed at least 1 year ago)
  • have been on a stable prescribed dose of HRT for at least 12 weeks – we’ll tell you what’s suitable

To take part, you must not:

  • be pregnant, breastfeeding or pre-menopausal
  • have taken any medicines containing testosterone within the last 3 months
  • have taken medicines for weight management in the last 3 months
  • be a smoker, vaper, or have used other nicotine or tobacco products in the last 3 months
  • have had breast or oestrogen-dependent cancer, or any condition that prevents you from taking oestrogen-containing medicines
  • have had a diagnosis of hyperandrogenic disorders (conditions relating to high levels of androgens i.e. sex hormones) such as acne, excessive hair growth, or female pattern baldness
  • have a previous diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis
  • have been treated for any allergic disease including moderate to severe asthma, severe eczema, food allergies or allergies to medicine
  • have a chronic skin disorder e.g. psoriasis, damaged skin or tattoos in the area where the study medicine will be applied
  • have had any mental illness in the last 2 years

There may be other reasons why you might not be suitable – we’ll explain them to you.

If you participate in this part of the study, Part 2, you’ll stay on our wards for 2 nights on 1 occasion and for 3 nights on 2 occasions, attend 3 outpatient visits and have 3 telephone calls. You’ll take about 5 weeks to complete the study.

The study starts on 2 February 2026.
