Healthy volunteers needed for the study of a potential new medicine for treating symptoms of illnesses that affect the brain. You must be aged 18 to 50, weigh more than 60 kg and not have used any nicotine products for at least 3 months. If you’re a woman who is able to have a baby, you must have an IUD or an IUS (coil). The study involves 3 sessions of 4 nights’ residence on our wards and 1 follow-up. Groups starting on 15, 17 and 19 August 2021. 

£3,000 + £30 travel allowance per visit

People with mild to moderate asthma needed for the study of a potential new medicine to treat the condition. You must be 18 to 65, not have used nicotine containing products for a least one year, and only reliever inhalers or low dose of steroids to treat your asthma. Vegetarians allowed. The trial involves 2 screenings, 3 sessions of 2 nights’ residence on our wards, and 12 outpatient visits. Group starting 30 August 2021.

£2,700 + Travel expenses

People with moderate atopic dermatitis affecting 5-40% of the body needed for the study of a potential new treatment to help reduce the symptoms of inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis (eczema). You must be aged 18 to 65 and have been diagnosed by your GP at least 6 months ago. The study involves a total 9 outpatient visits over 10 weeks. Groups starting on 2 and 9 August 2021.

Healthy men needed for the study of a potential new medicine for treating chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). You must be 18 to 55 years old, weigh more than 50 kg and have a BMI between 17.5 and 30.5 kg/m2. Vegetarians and smokers of up to 5 cigarettes or 3 grams of tobacco per day are allowed. The study involves 9 days and 8 nights’ residence on our wards, and 7 outpatient visits. Groups starting on 2 and 9 August 2021

Healthy men and women needed for the study of a potential new medicine for treating cystic fibrosis. You must be aged 18 to 50, have a BMI from 19 to 30 kg/m2, and not have used any nicotine containing products for at least 6 months. The study involves 2 nights’ residence on our wards and 1 follow-up. Groups starting on 2 and 5 August 2021.

Healthy men and postmenopausal or sterilised women needed for the study of a potential new medicine for treating neuropathic pain. You must healthy, aged 18 to 65, and have a BMI between 18.5 and 29.9. You must not have used any nicotine products for at least 6 months and vegetarians are allowed. The trial involves 3 nights’ residence on our wards and 2 follow-up phone calls. Groups starting  on 30 July, and 3 Aug 2021

Healthy volunteers needed for the study of a potential new medicine for treating Parkinson’s disease. You must be 18 to 55 and willing to eat 1 fatty breakfast containing bacon. If you’re a woman able to have a baby, you must use an IUD or an IUS (coil). Smokers of up to 4 cigarettes  per week are allowed. It involves 1 session of 4 nights’ residence, 3 sessions of 3 nights’ residence, and 1 follow-up. Next groups start 31 July and 7 August 2021.

Healthy men and women needed for the study of a potential new medicine for treating infections with certain types of viruses, including the COVID-19 virus. You must be aged 18 to 65 and must not have used any nicotine products for at least 6 months. Vegetarians are allowed. The study involves a bronchoscopy, 4 nights’ residence in our wards and 1 follow-up appointment. Next groups start on 9 and 16 August 2021

Healthy volunteers needed for the study of a potential new medicine for treating certain types of autoimmune diseases. You must be healthy, aged 18 to 65, weigh less than 50 Kg and have a BMI between 18 and 32 kg/m2. Vegetarians and light smokers are allowed. The trial involves 5 nights’ residence on our wards and 9 outpatient visits. Next groups start on 4 and 11 Aug 2021.

Volunteers with high levels of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] needed for the study of an experimental new medicine for treating the condition. We’ll first take a blood sample from you to check your levels of Lp(a). You must be at least 18 years old and have a BMI between 18 and 45. Vegetarians and smokers are allowed. The trial involves 2 screening visits, 2 nights’ residence on our wards and 7 outpatient visits. Study ongoing.

People who have depression needed for a study in which DMT is being developed as an experimental new treatment for this condition. You must be at least 18 years old and have a BMI between 18 and 30.9. Vegetarians, vegans and smokers are allowed. The study involves 2 sessions of 2 nights’ residence on our wards, 1 follow-up visit, and 4 follow-up phone or video calls. Starts in late August 2021.

£2,600 + reasonable travel expenses

Volunteers in general good health needed to help find a treatment for Alpha-1-Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD). You must have one or two copies of the Z mutation (PiXZ).  You must also be 18 to 72 years old, white (AATD affects mostly white Europeans), and not have used any nicotine products for at least 1 month. The study involves 2 sessions of 2 nights’ residence in our wards and 10 outpatient visits, over 2 months.  Study ongoing.

Healthy men needed for the study of a potential new medicine for treating communication difficulties and sleep problems linked to autism. You must be 18 to 55, and not have used any nicotine products in the last 3 months. The study involves one lumbar puncture and polysomnography, and it consists in 1 session of 16 nights’ residence in our wards and 3 outpatient visits. Next groups start on 6 August and 17 and 24 September 2021.

Men and postmenopausal or sterilised women who have osteoarthritis of the knee needed for the study of a potential new medicine to treat the condition. You must be 40 to 75 years old and have a BMI between 19 and 34.9. Vegetarians and smokers are allowed. The study involves 4 screenings, 18 study visits, 2 additional visits for Covid-19 tests, and 1 telephone call.  Study ongoing

Healthy people who vape (using e-cigarettes or e-liquids containing nicotine) are needed for a study of a marketed medicine that can help smokers also could help e-cigarette users to control their cravings. You must be aged 19 to 55 and if you also smoke, be willing to stop smoking for 9 days. The study involves 1 screening visit, and residence in our modern wards for 2 days and 1 night. Groups starting weekly until September 2021
